Stomach Trouble Tips For Moms To Be

  • Avoid warm places as heat can increase the nausea feelings.

  • Take naps during the day (but not right after eating). Tiredness plays a big part in morning sickness.

  • Get enough sleep at night.

  • Get out of bed slowly in the morning.

  • Try eating plain crackers or dry cereal before you get out of bed in the morning.

  • Keep candy or mints with you to suck on

  • Ginger ale or Reeds Ginger Beer (It is is non-alcoholic)

  • Silly as it sounds, carry a handkerchief with a few drops of a non nausea causing essential oil (lemon for example) in it and breath through it if you can't get away from the smell that is bothering you.

  • Avoid spicy and fried food - both eating and smelling it can increase your nausea.

  • Cold food may have less nausea inducing smells associated with them.

  • Eat smaller meals every two hours or so.

  • Eating something salty before a meal can help you "make it through" a meal.

  • Do not drink fluids with your meals.

  • Non caffeinated teas like peppermint and ginger can help came nausea.

  • Drink small amounts of fluids regularly though out the day to avoid dehydration.

  • Do not skip meals if you can help it.

  • Try sipping on iced lemon water

  • Stay away from large amounts of rich cheesy foods

  • Do not brush your teeth right away, that strong flavor will not work for you in the morning. I brush with baking soda after having been up for about two hours

  • Stick with simple foods for example - vanilla yogurt, peanut butter on rice cakes, toast, fruit, carrots, crackers with some cheese, cereal. These foods are very easy on the stomach, they will not cause as much acid as other choices .

  • Change your shampoo, perfume, deodorant and laundry soap. I find using very mild smelling products keeps my nausea down quite a bit.

  • Get fresh air as much as you can!

  • I hope if you are pregnant these tips will help you.
I have struggled with morning sickness in all three of my pregnancies and sometimes it means doing odd little things to get through it.
    Take care ladies!
