The My Own Boy

The My Own Boy
           Melissa Walters

It's when I call you Big Man and My boy, among other things
The waves you give, the grins you show and all the joy it brings

Stumbling, tumbling then at last walking
Pretty soon my boy, your mouth will be talking

I watch you, as I am quiet like a mouse
While you, in contrast make your presence known in this house

Clapping with me as you find your way
Bonding, loving more each and every day

Right now, you laughed as I was shown a toy
I just smiled and said you are my own  boy

You are my own boy, that is what I say.
It is you though, that prove it in every way

I hold you now, I watch you close at hand
Soon, far to soon, you will leave this land.

A grown up man, all dressed so fine
In my heart though, still mine.

The time you have given Mom is all joy
Because you are my own little boy
