I enjoy reading several blogs across the blogosphere.
Many of them on written by wonderful conservative Christian women. Sometimes as I read these blogs I am encouraged and blessed to serve my savior.
Many times, such as this morning I am saddened by the pride that is allowed to run wild and unchecked.
I can not keep silent about this anymore.
We all struggle with it. You know the attitude......
That "I am better than you because I am_________________" fill in the blank.
Jesus takes a very serious view of pride
Luke 18:9-14
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about[a] himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Romans 12:16
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
This sin is so easy and comfortable to slip on. We do it daily without even noticing.
I have felt my heart swell as I look at another wife thinking
"Humph, I obey my husband and I stay home with our kids that is the right thing to do!"
Or perhaps "I am so glad I am going to homeschool to avoid those evil influences"
I ask, NO
I am begging let's think about what we say about people who choose different paths then us.
Perhaps, instead of saying those condeming things we should be on our knees praying for both them and us
We can lead by example and with gentle spirits. We need to think about the words that flow from our mouths.
Some verses to mull over this morning.
Matthew 23:12
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Proverbs 29:23
A man's pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.
Luke 16:15
He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.
