Santa Is Not Coming To Town

Being that it is Christmas, Saint Nick has been making his usual appearances around the grocery store, on packages, in songs and from kind strangers asking Bella what she will have for Christmas.

Well, this is one home Santa does not visit.
We decided long ago that he would not be included in our holiday traditions.
Most christian folks say
"Yes, Santa has little to do with traditional Christ-centered Christmas celebrations"
However, it is for entirely different reasons that I choose not to celebrate with  him around.
Basically, I felt as though I would lying to my children.
As a mother, I want them to take me as a woman of my word.
I want the words I speak to be complete truth.
I make it a point to never tell Bella that "Cookies are all gone" when they are not.
I tell her she may not have one.
It could be so easy to say that.
To just flub a little and have her agree so easily.
But, if she found out once... and then it happened again.
Eventually she would lose her trust in my words.
So it was with a steadfast mind that I said no to Santa.
He does not exist, therefore he should not be part of our Christmas celebration.

It scared me a little, to think about something else.
So many view Christ as another version of Santa.
Someone fun to look at when we were kids... someone to sing about while we are young.
In the same way they out-grew Santa, they outgrew Jesus.
I am not saying the two completely go hand in hand.
That if you teach your kids about Jesus and do celebrate with Santa, they will stop believing :)
I am not saying that all. I am just asking for a step back and honestly
look at all of the things we teach our children.

Are we credible? Are our words truth?

I write these words not with judgemental pen in hand. I write it as a mother who longs to be the best example of Christ to my children that I can be.
My heart goes out to each and every parent out there.... struggling up the same mountain that I am.
Every day learning, trusting God, failing and trusting again.
We are all in the same race!

Many blessings on you and yours this wonderful evening!
