Being a family in ministry brings new joys and challenges each day. Keeping it real and raw here. One day it can mean having a deep meaningful prayer session with someone, where you go away feeling completely revived and refreshed for why God put you on this earth.
On other days, it means at the end of a business meeting a church member, tells my husband to shave his beard. Over the last few years we have learned to roll with God's providence.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
Lately I have been trying to pass on the idea of us as God's workers to our children. Bella made a profession of faith last year. I have explained to her that she now has the Holy Spirit in her, directing her to in the new way of life.
Well, we've been focused on the area of obedience (when are we not?) I have been helping them see what their role is, in our ability to bless others.
Story to illustrate ~Of COURSE!~
At Winco last week, my children were very much in line with their listening, walking and helpful skills. We got to the check out line and I had a giant mom smile on my face. As we were loading up the groceries this elderly lady was struggling to get her groceries in her cart. I asked Mr Conner (age 3) to keep loading up our bags while I helped the lady. I went over and was able to load her cart while my kiddos stayed put.
This provided an excellent opportunity to talk about blessing others as a family. I explained to Bella and Conner, that when they practice obedience then, I am freed up to look for areas to bless others. So we work as a team, a ministry team so to speak. Sad to say, this behavior in the store is not a normal one for my kiddos and usually I leave Winco with the walk of shame.
However, approaching obedience from the ministry team mentality has seemed to really open both kids eyes about their role in the family. It gives them new reason to hone their obedience skills.
Today as I prep for a chili dinner, I am doing for the church, I pray for good obedience so that our ministry family can get our lights out for HIM tonight. Even if we end up with an embarrassing situation, like the time Conner ran home from the church naked..... we'll remember
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
