The other day I was forced I mean blessed to have to drive 50 MPH down from our home.
My car was on the toy sized spare, and the max miles that were safe were 50.
So at first, my spirit resisted. I felt frustrated at having to leave earlier, and irritated that the people were stacking up behind me.
Then, the Lord began to fill me with his spirit. I saw the land with new eyes. I began thanking him and praising him for each piece of creation I saw.
I pointed out things to my children that I had never seen before. We sang and laughed. All my frustration and need to go attitude just drained away.
I was left simply enjoying the drive.
Normally I am in a hurry to get to my next destination. I have a list of things to complete till I can move on. What does it mean that often my list is more important than my time with the Lord. Where is he in my schedule? Do I slow down and take time to live for him or am I pushing the pedal down for more speed?
Psalm 37:7-9 says to
Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land.
Also, speaking of being slow
James 1:19-20
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires
Sometimes, we need things like a blown tire to teach us the error of our ways.
Savor moments with the Lord and find joy in his creation.
