Tonight as I went past a man on the sidewalk outside of the 99 cents store
I read his sign and something tugged at my heart.
I bought him a water and some boxed popcorn. ( I wasn't sure what he would like)
I thought that in Redding, water would be welcome.
I thought to myself it is 102 today and anyone willing to sit in that spot is deserving of some water.
So I gave it to him, he immediately said thank you and started opening it.
As I walked away I made a promise to myself and to the Lord.
For the next 30 days any time I see someone like that, I will stop and give them food and water.
(Unless the situation is deemed completely unsafe)
I am not on here to debate whether or not they truly need it or the right and wrong of helping them.
I am simply here to say my commitment is helping out whenever and wherever I see them.
I am not allowed to drive on by, I have to stop and see what can be done.
I will say this:
There are not as many people as you would think willing to help out.
Dave and I can attest that he and a pregnant Melissa walked along a busy highway for quite a while,
thumbing a ride before anyone picked us up.
(We got two flats on our way to church one year)
We were surprised that when someone finally pulled over they had barely any room, and their car was quite a bit older than ours. Still they stopped and helped us out!
One day I had been sent out of the court house to another place across town and needed to pay to park at both spots. I was out of money due to my first parking..... so I went around asking people for spare change to be able to park again.
It was very eye opening, I received "those looks" and several people clicked their tongues while turning me down. I was really in need but, not everyone was willing to help.
So to finish,
If anyone is interested in joining me feel free to follow
and tell me about your experiences.
Talk about the people that you meet and what this has taught you.
I will be writing about this for the next 30 days and sharing what I see.
Thank you!
