Doing Instead Of Saying

Recently I have been reading "The Mothers Book" By Lydia Child. Though it was written in 1831; I feel it has many helpful tips and reminders for mothers today. So if you can find a copy peruse, muse and use if you will :) The part I want talk about today spoke on how seven words a mother spoke could not equal one action she took.
Children are puppets in a way, they copy what they see us do.
Though we may tell them many times to do something, or not do something they are more swayed by what they see Momma doing.
I pictured this in my own life with Isabella
I tell Bella to respect her dad, but I could undo that with one poorly picked word.

I tell Bella to eat healthy but, those little eyes are watching me as I sneak bites from the Ice Cream in the freezer.

I tell Bella to be productive and yet those little eyes watch as Momma plays on facebook and reads.

Isn't convicting to sit down and think about our words vs our actions.
I was taken aback when I thought about this in all aspects of my life.
The Bible sets it down very plainly in James

James 1:22-25 (New King James Version)

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror;

24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

I am reminded today that the best gift I can give Isabella is to be a woman of action.
Living out my faith daily and not just telling her to obey, be kind, be gentle etc
but, showing her in all that I do.

Now, the nice thing is I do not have to try and do this in my own strength, the Lord tells us in his word
Isaiah 40:29 "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength Praise the Lord for his continued faithfulness to me, his faltering servant!
